Brian Welch
"I keep returning to the rooms I've left. Not the people in them — just the light, the way it fell on the wall in the late afternoon."
BRIAN is a novelist and artist based in Austin, Texas. He is easily distracted and has a difficult time sitting still. Over the years, his creative endeavors have ranged from furniture to novels and stories, to handmade books and photography.
He earned a BFA in Visual Art from the University of Texas and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he created handmade books exploring memory and archives.
He spent most of his career as a carpenter and woodworker building all manner of containers, ranging from tiny jewelry boxes to giant houses and everything in between.
In 2020, he returned to school and earned a graduate certificate in publishing from the University of Denver.
Currently, he works as a project manager in publishing and is chipping away at his second novel in the early mornings before the rest of the word is awake.
